MediaHospital S.r.l. (MediaH)

MediaHospital is a SME engaged in research activities, consultancy and training about different areas such as the potentialities of ICT (Information & Communication Technology) in healthcare, the need to have a methodological support for the development of distance learning training (FAD - Training distance) that would allow the Participants to investigate the dynamics related to the management of drug therapy.

MediaHospital is committed to develop technologies that can support, help and speed up the patients’ care pathway, both within the hospital, and in the "private" of his/her own home.

The key-issue that move our research pertain to a multi-perspective view of the patient’s pathway, trying to pursue efficiency and effectiveness both from a managerial point of view (cost reduction, NHS efficiency, clinical staff rationalization, etc.), and especially from a clinical point of view (patient welfare, care pathways optimization, clinical risk reduction, etc..).

Specific expertise. Since 2012, MediaHospital has been a partner in several scientific research projects, collaborating with some italian hospitals (INRCA - National Institute of Hospital Care for Seniors, Rehabilitation Center of Villa Beretta in Costamasnaga, Policlinico di Milano, FERB ONLUS – Federazione Europea Ricerca Biomedica, PUNTO SERVICE RSA) for the implementation of technologies supporting entertainment for patient engagement, with Intel for the development of a business intelligent system in healthcare contexts.

MediaHospital Touch-Screen (TS)

MediaHospital developed a multimedia content and services distribution platform, patented in Europe and with a registered trademark; which aims to guide users through an independent and self-applicable specific activities and/or treatments. Using texts, sounds, videos and experiential laboratories ( ad-hoc tailored activities) it is able to:

  • help users to better understand their health condition;
  • challenge and engage patients with specific serious game-based content, in order to increase their motivation;
  • stimulate multiple sensorial channels at the same time;
  • allow continuous self-regulated and self-administered activities, with a “virtual trainer” that can help users with their exercises;
  • offer maximum flexibility of the process, which can be adjusted to fit the level of ability reached by the patient;
  • allow the collection of data on the exercises performed by users, and their subsequent elaboration into a set of parameters that can be used to adjust the whole process.

MediaHospital Virtual Reality (VR)

Supports also motor rehabilitation exercises asking for interaction with objects, tools or the home environment monitoring the motor performance, tested and evaluated in Rehabilitation Center of Villa Beretta in Costamasnaga. Over the last two decades the public has shown a growing interest for technology that has brought many companies to direct their attention to the consumer market, providing access for a reasonable price to services and functionalities usually intended for a business environment. In this panorama MediaHospital® identified a group of devices which, when combined could give the right instrument to implement a low cost station for rehabilitation based on natural interaction with a Virtual Reality Environment. MediaHospital already developed a first set of exercises to use within a Virtual Reality Environment based on interaction with objects, self-acknowledge, and space exploration, although the range of possibilities offered by having at our disposal an highly scalable and diffusible system as this is actually vast and challenging.

The obvious benefit of using a Virtual Reality System is the involvement of the user that is not only brought in a proactive role in his therapy but also stimulated in his commitment, thanks to both the playful aspect and the customizable feedback system.

Another extremely relevant advantage is the possibility to propose different kind of experience thanks to the intrinsic high customizability of a computer generated environment, giving a wide spread of possible therapeutic approaches and goals and therefore providing support for a large variety of pathologies.

Although MediaHospital was born as Software as a Service deployed from a healthcare facility, it quickly integrated this offer with new options to meet the variety of challenges other fields offer.

Role in the project : MediaHospital is leader of WP3 Development of Virtualized visits and Games for cognitive and motor training.
